Sandemans New Europe Tours are a great way to stretch your legs and explore a city. Informative, creative, historical and always led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, I’ve taken these tours in a few cities across Europe (Prague, Berlin, Madrid) and they always left me feeling smarter, happier and starving for dinner. The 3-4 hour tours are run daily and are on a show up on the spot or you can book before basis. The tour is almost always on foot (some bike tours are available) and take travellers around by revealing the history and heart of the city one story at a time.

The guides, who aren’t always locals but often travellers themselves who love and live in the city the speak for, guide the tour for free and on a tips only basis – so at the end, you’re free to spend as much or as little as you’d like based on your own budget and on their performance. I should warn you though, as a poor backpacker I thought that this would work in my favour, however the guides were so dam good that I just wanted to give them all of my money, so in the end, I think that everybody wins.

An excerpt from www.neweuropetours.eu:

What makes our tours so much better than the industry average?

“The guides we work with won’t just hit you with an onslaught of facts, dates and names, but will bring the past alive through their unique and animated blend of story telling. Coupled with a vast knowledge base which, the guides are able to weave history together and draw connections and parallels through the subject matter. And since the unforgettable guides on their Free Tours work on a tips-only basis, the highest quality is guaranteed! They’ll never pressure you to tip – even though the guides receive no other compensation from our company or the cities we work in. We believe that if money is given, it should be voluntary and in direct proportion to the quality of the tour and the budget of the traveler. Value for money goes a long way, and satisfied customers tip what they think the tour was worth!”
