Annie,thank you very much for your blog and for sharing your stories with us .I wanted to ask you some questions, I am a 28 years old Egyptian pharmacist, I have been thinking of working as a flight attendant because I am bored with my job and I always wanted to travel the world but have no money for it, I wanted to know why you stopped working as one after only 2.5 years, and do you miss it or consider going back again, will working as one help me to visit the world for real or will I be exhausted all the time ? Is the salary good ? Did you have any dangerous situations ? What is your advice for me if I apply for fly Emirates or any other company, in terms of the interview, I am 28, male, I speak English and Arabic, what is the important things I should consider before applying ? I stopped working as a flight attendant because I was finished with the transiet lifestyle, living in the Middle East and didn’t enjoy being treated like a number or working for such a large company. That’s not to say that it wasn’t the best experience of my life – it just wasn’t one that I knew (going into it) that I would do forever. I also found, living in the Middle East, a 14 hour flight away from my family and friens and adapting to the culture and landscape were difficult for more than a few years. I know that I’m fortunate, however, that I was able to come home to Canada where life is pretty easy.
If you work for an airline in the Middle East, you will see the world in a whirldwind. You’ll be tired, all of the time, but you will find it impossible to sleep when you land after a 13 hour flight in New York City because you are in NYC!! And you won’t just travel on layovers for work. I took plenty of trips and vacations on my days off to destinations that we could fly to at low cost on staff travel. For the sake of travelling only, it is an extra-ordinary job.
The quality of the salary depends on how much it equates to in your home country and what the job market looks like there, but I can say that my Egyptian friends seemed quite pleased by it. My best advice to you Kareem, is to go to an open day in Egypt and to apply. If it is something that you’ve always thought of doing and it doesn’t work out, you can always return to pharmacy. (great job by the way!) and if it does work out, you can work there as long as you need until you dream of doing something else. goodluck! and thanks for stopping by.

What about Germany ? What is your experience about it ?
Germany is one of my favourite countries in Europe and the country that most reminds me of Canada. My favourite cities are:
Berlin – for the history, art, architecture, culture and night life
Hamburg – for riding a bicycle through town, shopping, sailing on the lake, eating memorable meals
Munich – for Oktoberfest! and Bavarian culture, English Gardens, a lively city centre, great food and even greater beers
I love Germany most for its history, culture and kind people.
Is Austria the same as Germany or you have another opinion about it ?
