Bao Down to Gastown

May 12, 2015

If you’re a big fan of no fuss fusion and fresh flavour combinations, then the newly opened Bao Down in Gastown is here to satisfy the craving that you didn’t know you had. Specializing in fluffy Bao bun’s that are stuffed with authentic, Asian-inspired ingredients (see the #YVR Bao) this sweet spot is my new favourite taco place in town.

Bao Down is a savvy restaurant in that it brings something to Vancouver that we surprisingly didn’t already have: Asian Street food.

In a city that manages to have more signs stated in Mandarin then French, Hongcouver has hundreds of Pho restaurants, Thai Kitchens, Dim Sum spots and impressive high end options, but until Bao Down we didn’t have a place that could serve up cheap, quick Asian street food. It’s totally take-away-able and doesn’t come from a food truck.

When I crossed the bridge from Kits a couple of months ago to see what all of the fuss was about, I was fortunate to meet the owners and operators when I sat down with my Bao and it was their great energy and enthusiasm for their product that really made me take notice. Combine that with their undeniably delicious food, trendy location, liquor licence and friendly faces, Bao Down is definitely a place to write home about. www.baodown.ninja
